The Importance of Really Good Gut Health!

It is becoming more and more evident that good health really BEGINS in the gut! Our gut houses somewhere in the vicinity of 90 trillion bacteria, so you can see how our intestinal bacteria can have a major impact on our health. There are numerous disorders that involve the small intestine or stomach (gut region) and these can include gastric reflux, asthma, eczema, stomach ulcers, food sensitivities, hayfever, bloating, irritable bowel and auto-immune diseases. Did you know that colicky babies have no Lactobacillus, so introducing the pro-biotic (culture only) for young babies can alleviate this issue usually quickly and easily. We use an extremely high quality Australian made synbiotic product that gives remarkable results for so many issues that stem from the gut.

To read more about how important having good gut bacteria is, please click here for a link to an article printed in Wellbeing magazine some time ago. It’s a great read and explains so much for our children especially who need to be taking an excellent probiotic for their health from birth. For more information on the synbiotic that we use and recommend, please contact me via our website!

Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate – Is this ingredient in your products?

There is a great deal of awareness today about the ingredients that we do not want to see in our products that we use daily on our skin and on the skin of our children.  However, consumers are still being misled by the terms ‘natural’ and ‘organic’, when the focus really needs to be on safe products. For a product to be able to use the word ‘natural’ or ‘organic’, it only needs to have one natural or organic ingredient and the rest of the ingredients can be harmful, toxic and certainly not safety-conscious!

There are many companies attempting to cash in on consumer awareness by advertising ‘No Sodium Lauryl Sulphate’, ‘No Propylene Glycol’, ‘No Parabens’, no this and no thatRead more….

Australia behind again when it comes to banning harmful chemicals

It is pretty hard these days to pick up any newspaper or health magazine and NOT find an article that is talking about the adverse health effects of potentially harmful ingredients and chemicals. Another article published earlier this year in the Canberra Times highlighted several chemicals used routinely in everyday cosmetic products here in Australia that have been banned by other countries. The article reported that “commonly available products [in Australia] contain substances banned in Europe, Japan, Sweden and Saudi Arabia.” You can read the full article here.

The article highlighted several ingredients including triclosan, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and formaldehyde, all of which are listed on our 1000 Mums Handy Pocket Guides, including what type of products these ingredients are commonly found in. Our pocket guides are a great place to start to learn what ingredients and food additives to avoid. Certainly, these are three of the many, many potentially harmful ingredients that we avoid by using only safety-conscious formulated products. Take the Toxic Ten Challenge

Are you unknowingly putting potentially harmful ingredients on your children? Do you know that labelling regulations in Australia allow chemicals to be in your personal care products that have been banned in other countries?  Read more….

Chemicals, Kids and Cancer – Article by Dr. Peter Dingle

There is little doubt that our kids have a greater susceptibility to toxic chemicals. Everyday we expose our children to hundreds of different chemicals in an array of household products and yet remain puzzled as to why they get sick and why the rates of childhood asthma, allergies and cancer are higher than ever.  Read more….

A Toxic Business

The effects of everyday chemicals that we ingest, inhale and lather ourselves with, is a very toxic business. The average consumer is unaware of how readily their bodies actually absorb these chemicals that they expose themselves and their children to, each and every day. Two ‘lab rat’ authors have written a book “Slow Death by Rubber Duck” to show exactly how ‘everyday life’ bombards the human body with chemicals. If you think that small amounts of potentially harmful ingredients don’t affect you, then you may be thinking twice after reading this book.  The authors, Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie found the efficiency with which their bodies absorbed various toxins “utterly mind-blowing”.
